Summary: Kirk is not, in fact, an Admiral. He has no desire to be an Admiral. He's fine pretending to be one for Spock, though.

Summary: At the end of the 5-year mission Spock is 'offered' a promotion. He resigns instead, and Kirk spends months regretting his insistence. Then Spock reappears on Earth. Everything improves... but oddly, some people in Starfleet Command take exception to Spock's changes.
